Artpiad combines “Art” and “-piad,” a suffix used for large-scale international festivals or Olympic-like events in art, culture, and academic fields. It means “Art Olympics,” and was born as the new name of the Art Olympics through Korean and English trademark applications filed on May 26, 2025.

Lee Kwang-soo, elected World President of the IAA/AIAP at the 2023 General Assembly, pledged to revive the Art Olympics. The Asia Artpiad Committee (AAC) was established to play a central role in preparing for the Art Olympics under the new name Artpiad, centered around IAA Asian member countries.

Operations of the AAC
The AAC oversees the overall operation and management of the Asia Artpiad competition. The General Assembly, comprised of all AAC members, is the highest decision-making body and final authority, and decisions are implemented through it.
Hosting Cycle
Unlike the Olympic Games, which are held every four years, the Artpiad competition is held every three years.
